Chapter 3: Shay

Tears ran down Shay’s face as she walked to the bus stop on the way home she couldn’t believe what she heard in the courthouse. Dre couldn’t have known that they were going to give him all that time he just couldn’t have. Shay’s heart broke in two every time the judge’s verdict invaded her mind. She checked her time on her phone to see what time the next bus came around and she had twenty minutes to spare so she walked to the Walgreens on the corner and took her last fifty dollars on hand to put some money on the phone in case Dre called.

Knowing her man she figured he would be so upset and probably wouldn’t call until morning when he blew off some steam.

Shay didn’t even want to go home just yet because she knew what she was about to face when she got there. Sandra’s ‘I told you so’ speech seemed to fly in her brain already and Shay just wasn’t ready. Trying to imagine spending another night let alone ten more years lying in bed at night not being able to touch Dre’s abs while she grinded on his dick was aching to the depths of Shay’s heart. More tears fell down her face and she didn’t give a fuck who looked at her pain she was hurting.

Dre came along out of nowhere and took her by on a whim and it was all snatched away until 2024. Shay decided to go to work early today there was no way she could stand to be looked down on yet again by her mother or hear a cold truth about her bad choices.

She really did love her kids and she want them to be better than her but she felt she needed a man to help out Shay felt off balance without one that’s why every man that came along and sang they love her she spread her legs and caught a baby. Shay didn’t care what nobody thought of her or said behind her back because she always tried to live up to a man’s expectation which is why she took up LPN in the first place. Sandra was always talking about “You got these girls watching everything you do Shay you betta save ya self.” And all Shay could think about was how she watched her have man after man come into their lives and home.

Sandra was nothing like Shay yes she had niggas running in and out of her child life for two reason. One she wasn’t taking no shit off a nigga and she wasn’t dealing with no broke nigga. Shay knew that she was going to have to face the music sooner or later she cried as she rode the bus home because she didn’t know how she was gonna get by the next ten years.
